Hayseed Dixie 2006

They came, they saw, they made us squeal like pigs!

Hayseed Dixie rocked the Victoria and the Sally were there to bear witness to a crackin' night of drinkin', smoking and a good ol' toe-downing (new word, just made up).

The only band in the world that can dispense with a drum riser and kit, to replace it with a fridge full of beer and still sound bloody amazing

This band are the only band in the world that can dispense with a drum riser and kit, to replace it with a fridge full of beer and still sound bloody amazing. Take yer standard AC/DC chord progression and melody and turn it inside out, bin the drums, add a banjo or two and play at 78RPM...that's the essence of Hayseed Dixie and boy does it sound good.

We rolled up and made camp in the corner of the "camping area" at the Vic...4 bikes and a trike to fly the flag, cars and vans for the rest, but it was only to be expected really. The weather was foul all over the country, but funnily enough held off in the Midlands around the time we set off from my house.

We'd just got sorted and cracked into a few tinnies, when this fella rolls up on a Triumph and has a natter and a laugh for a bit. He's amazed that we're camping in what he sees as shitty weather, but we put his mind at ease and explained that we're really hard as nails, despite looking like a bunch of pretty-boys. He declines the offer of a beer 'cos he says he's got to go set-up and rehearse! We see him on stage later...heading up the band. Nice guy.

Not as nice as the one Naz made friends with in the toilet..you know the one...mascara, blusher and lippy :-) How was he Naz?

The evening ended with the induction of Suzie and Beetlejuice - and if he asks me where his T-Shirt is, one more time, he'll be forced to spend a night in a tent with Busa. Promise.

MTL was on his back, flat out in the shelter, arms and legs akimbo and STILL clutching a tin of John Smiths

Although the evening ended, night came, which meant back to the The Salutation Village. Most Night Owls held out quite late...I think we were trying to work out what had happened to Tracey's breathing apparatus. Never has it looked so fine :) I sneaked away early...around 2am'ish and left the Standard to the themselves plus one or two extras (Alison, Beetlejuice). The Standard now being Paul, MTL and Thorax, otherwise know as the Dawn Watch.

Leaving the comfort of the camper van (which Ali had driven up) for a morning pee, it was nice, not surprising, but still nice, to see one member of the Dawn Watch still not safe and secure in his tent. MTL was on his back, flat out in the shelter, arms and legs akimbo and STILL clutching a tin of John Smiths. I just wish I had a camera to hand, but thanks for the memory anyway Mick...it will stay with me for a long time.

Cheers team...a great turnout and another good night. We're getting a bit too good at this.

Present : Prez, Tracey, Naz, Joan, Paul, Fran, Thora, For One Night Only (Alistair), Big Steve, Suzie, Tim, Ian, Alison and extra guest which I'm struggling with at the mo. Name...Phil!?
